Welcome your Chapter Incoming Governor-Elect!

John Rommel, MD, FACC, has been elected to the position of Governor Elect for the North Carolina Chapter beginning March 2025. He is a cardiologist based in Wilmington, NC with Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute.

Rommel attended medical school at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and fellowships in Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at University of North Carolina Hospitals Program.

My approach to healthcare is rooted in the principle of meeting patients wherever they are on their journey. We often encounter patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments. Because of that, I strive to help them make incremental improvements in their health.

I am most grateful to be surrounded by an incredible team. I firmly believe that healthcare is not a solo endeavor; it requires a team-based approach. Collaboration among healthcare professionals, along with the active involvement of the patient, is essential in achieving the best outcomes.

Outside of medicine, I cherish spending quality time with my family and enjoying outdoor activities in Wilmington. Despite assistance from many friends and colleagues, I remain a mediocre sailor and a very poor golfer. However, I am determined to get my daughters out as much as possible to enjoy all the beauty North Carolina has to offer.
— John Rommel, MD, FACC

Rommel has served two terms as a Councilor for the North Carolina Chapter ACC. During this time, he has assisted with the annual conference and served on our initial North Carolina ACC Grant Selection Committee. He will serve as Chapter Governor Elect from March 2025-26 and become Chapter Governor March 2026-29.
