SC & NC Chapters ACC 31st Annual Conference Wrap up
The 31st Annual Joint Conference was held September 27-29 at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina.
We are so grateful and appreciative for our attendees, speakers and exhibitors that were able to make the trip to Kiawah for this conference in light of the recent and heartbreaking events in western North Carolina and surrounding areas due to Hurricane Helene.
Over 450 attendees enjoyed a beautiful weekend at the beach and informative educational sessions on AI into Cardiovascular Care, Demystifying Resistant Hypertension, Approaching the Young Patient with Aortic Stenosis, Updates in Atrial Fibrillation and many more. We were excited to have ACC's Immediate Past President, Hadley Wilson, MD, MACC as one of our featured speakers. Thank you to the Annual Conference Program chairs, Jesse Jorgensen, MD and Danny Steinberg, MD, on bringing together timely topics and speakers!
Friday afternoon sessions featured a CV Team Seminar coordinated by SC Chapter CVT Liaison Nicole Garrett, PA-C, MS, SC Chapter CVT Representative, Grand Strand Heart and Vascular and NC Chapter CVT Liaison, Megan Herrington, PA-C, AACC, NC Chapter CVT Representative, Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute. We greatly appreciate the assistance of our speakers that were unable to attend in person due to the storm, pivoting to holding Zoom sessions at the last minute so this seminar could continue to be held! Thank you to those who participated and were still able to attend in person!
A Women in Cardiology seminar followed presented by Pamela Morris, MD, FACC, MUSC on 2022 ACC Health Policy Statement on Career Flexibility in Cardiology.
In addition, an FIT Seminar was held on Friday afternoon with topics covering Financial Management, Early Career Advice and a Contract Negotiation Panel. FITs from both NC & SC programs were able to apply for scholarships to attend the conference with 34 fellows receiving scholarships to attend.
The always popular FIT Jeopardy concluded the annual conference on Sunday. Congratulations to the FIT team from UNC on winning!
